Homeostasis Gallery Description
Homeostasis Series This series has evolved from my inspiration from art and science, my background in biology and a pouring workshop with the wonderful artist and author of “Pouring Light”, Jean Grastorf. As an artist I enjoy being open to influence, and continue to develop new skills. While incorporating new techniques into my work, it is important to me that the piece remains true to my own aesthetic and original vision. I like to think of these pieces as organic abstraction. As I pour the paints over the paper, I allow the pigments to interact, flow and bleed while preserving my idea and intent. I know how I want the piece to look like in the end, but I need to be free enough to let it happen rather than control it. I enjoy the dynamic process of pouring paint. On a biological level, organisms have an inherent desire to be in a stable state of equilibrium. In order to maintain some sort of constant internal environment, our tolerance limits drive us to respond to the stimuli around us. Each of us has our own parameters and unwritten rules that we live by, whether we are aware of them or not. These guiding principles exist and influence our responses to our environment. |
