bio A 2014 B-W CroppedBio JBC Studios Colorado Artist, Jennifer Blair-Cockrum

Born in the motor city of Detroit, Michigan, Jennifer’s family was inspired to relocate to Nevada when she was 10 after a family reunion among the mountains of the west. She attended Gonzaga University in Washington state for her Bachelors of Science in Biology and Art.  After earning her Masters at the University of Hawaii, she moved to Colorado.  Jennifer enjoyed a long technical sciences career in the occupational health and safety sciences.  In 2006, Jennifer decided to trade her corporate office for studio space, in order to focus her passion and creative energy into her career as a professional artist and leave the corporate scene.

She has always been interested in the art of science and the science of art. Colorado artist Jennifer Blair-Cockrum considers herself more an organic abstractionist. What does that mean exactly?

Method and process are integral into each unique creation.  Jennifer allows each medium she paints in; pastel, watercolor, acrylic, or ceramics to retain its own voice or style within the piece.  At present she is predominately painting in soft pastels and continues experimenting with other mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, and en-caustic.  Jennifer remains an active member in the arts community.  Her original works are sold at juried art exhibitions and a select number of fine art festivals in the west and along the front range of Colorado.
